James Fry: What stops British and Irish horses running in the Velka Pardubicka
With the Czech racing season well and truly put to bed during these long winter months it could be a good a time as any to reflect on what has gone on at Pardubice Racecourse and also time to think on what may happen in the future to one of the greatest jumping spectacles anywhere in the world.
It is common knowledge that there has been unrest at Dostihovy Spolek for a number of years and in the past 12 months there have been many changes on the board of directors and in the management as well.
Confirmation: Velka Pardubicka date for 2012 will be October 14th
It had been suggested more than a month ago that the date of the 2012 Velka Pardubicka might be moved forward by a week to accommodate a change to the date of the Gold Helmet speedway meeting (Pardubice's second major annual sports event). However, the suggestion was rejected by the Czech Jockey Club, and it is understood that it has now been dropped. The 2012 Velka Pardubicka will be held on its traditional date, the second Sunday in October, i.e. October 14th, 2012.

January 2012 newsletter
December is not a month that usually produces much horseracing news in the Czech Republic, and this month we certainly had nothing to compare with Kauto Star’s win at Kempton Park. What a horse! Perhaps, after all, Kauto Star, rather than Josef Vana, is world steeplechasing’s personality of 2011.
Vladimír Tlučhoř is the new leader of Dostihovy spolek, negotiations among the shareholders continue
A press release by the Town of Pardubice
Since yesterday (Dec 22nd), Dostihovy spolek Pardubice has had a new chairman of the board, veterinary surgeon Vladimír Tlučhoř. At the same time, President of the Jockey Club Václav Luka was co-opted to the board. Negotiations between the Town and the minority shareholders of the association have been continuing.
Luka: Our interest in Pardubice is mainly in horse racing
President of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic Václav Luka is the “new faceˮ on the board of Dostihovy spolek Pardubice. The five-member leading organ of the association that oganises the Velka Pardubicka is now short of just one member, a representative of the small shareholders, who should be nominated not later than at the general meeting of Dostihovy spolek, which will be held as early as possible in the new year. With what ideas does the top official of the Jockey Club enter the Pardubice organisation?
New chairman of Dostihovy spolek appointed
On December 22nd, the Board of Dostihovy spolek elected Vladimír Tlučhoř to be its new chairman, replacing Jan Němec, who resigned very recently. Vladimír Tlučhoř is a Pardubice-based veterinary surgeon.
Chairman of Dostihovy spolek stands down
After just ten months as chairman of the board of Dostihovy spolek, Jan Nemec has stood down. Jan Nemec came in as a crisis manager after Dostihovy spolek chairman Mirek Petran was ousted. In May 2011, racecourse manager Jiri Kunat was replaced by Petr Buchal, another crisis manager. Various other staff changes have taken place at Dostihovy spolek, and most of the people with long-term experience of horseracing have gone. The departure of Jan Nemec will most likely lead to a domino effect.
Dostihový spolek does not raise its capital
15 December 2011. The General Meeting of Dostihový spolek, organisers of racing at Pardubice, finished without any substantial outcome. The Town of Pardubice, as the majority shareholder, was not able to push through its proposal to raise the capital of the Association which, as it explained, would be necessary in order to implement a rescue plan to lead the organisers out of its current 20 million crowns [approx. EUR 800 000] of indebtedness.
Dostihovy spolek shareholders reject a proposal to raise capital
The General Meeting on December 15th of Dostihovy spolek, organisers of events at Pardubice racecourse, ended as expected in deadlock. The Town of Pardubice, the majority shareholder with a 51% holding, proposed that new capital be raised by the shareholders to strengthen the Association’s ability to run the racecourse. However, a two-thirds majority was needed in order to enforce this proposal, and the smaller shareholders opposed it.
