The Velka Pardubicka will be on Saturday

2.2.2012

After an exchange of communication, the Council of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic decided to accede to a request from the Town of Pardubice to change the date for the 122nd running of the Velka Pardubicka Steeplechase due to a clash with the Gold Helmet speedway meeting.

Dostihovy spolek's general meeting will be on March 7th

The general meeting of Dostihovy Spolek, organisers of events at Pardubice racecourse, will be held on March 7th. At this meeting, members will be asked to vote on whether to raise the association's capital. Small shareholders blocked this proposal when it was presented in November 2012.

Vana's consortium will not take over management of Pardubice racecourse

For several months, a consortium led by Josef Vana has been offering to take over management of Pardubice racecourse and increase the prize money in  particular for the Velka Pardubicka. Vana has told the press that he already has promises of a prize money fund of CzK 7 million. The board of Dostihovy Spolek, the association which has organised events at the course since 1993, did not speak to Josef Vana directly until recently, and a dialogue has been conducted through the media.

Press conference raises uncertainty about Velka Pardubicka date

At the press conference organised by the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic at the Park Inn in Prague on February 1st, uncertainty about the date of the 2012 Velka Pardubicka was raised but not resolved. Stepanka Frankova, mayor of Pardubice and a member of the board of Dostihovy Spolek, the association that manages events at Pardubice Racecourse, said that she would like the date of the Velka Pardubicka to be changed from Sunday 14 October to Saturday 13 October, so that October 14th can be the date for the Gold Helmet speedway meeting.

February 2012 newsletter

Either nothing much happened in Czech racing in January 2012, or something happened and I missed it. I have to admit that I have been very busy with my daytime job and have not been giving much attention to our equine friends and the people around them.

James Fry: What stops British and Irish horses running in the Velka Pardubicka

With the Czech racing season well and truly put to bed during these long winter months it could be a good a time as any to reflect on what has  gone on at Pardubice Racecourse and also time to think on what may happen in the future to one of the greatest jumping spectacles anywhere in the world.

It is common knowledge that there has been unrest at Dostihovy Spolek for a number of years and in the past 12 months there have been many changes on the board of directors and in the management as well.

Confirmation: Velka Pardubicka date for 2012 will be October 14th

It had been suggested more than a month ago that the date of the 2012 Velka Pardubicka might be moved forward by a week to accommodate a change to the date of the Gold Helmet speedway meeting (Pardubice's second major annual sports event). However, the suggestion was rejected by the Czech Jockey Club, and it is understood that it has now been dropped. The 2012 Velka Pardubicka will be held on its traditional date, the second Sunday in October, i.e. October 14th, 2012.

January 2012 newsletter

December is not a month that usually produces much horseracing news in the Czech Republic, and this month we certainly had nothing to compare with Kauto Star’s win at Kempton Park. What a horse! Perhaps, after all, Kauto Star, rather than Josef Vana, is world steeplechasing’s personality of 2011.
