Luka: Our interest in Pardubice is mainly in horse racing

President of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic Václav Luka is the “new faceˮ on the board of Dostihovy spolek Pardubice. The five-member leading organ of the association that oganises the Velka Pardubicka is now short of just one member, a representative of the small shareholders, who should be nominated not later than at the general meeting of Dostihovy spolek, which will be held as early as possible in the new year. With what ideas does the top official of the Jockey Club enter the Pardubice organisation?
“The Jockey Club has a great interest in the prosperity of Czech racing,ˮ Luka explains. “For this reason it has been participating in the activities of the organisers not only in Prague, where it is the guarantor for horse racing, but also in Slušovice and in Lysa nad Labem. The same kind of motivation underlies the entry of the Jockey Club into affairs in Pardubice. When I saw the proceedings at the last general meeting [in Decmber 2011], I had the feeling that racing was taking a back seat in the haggling, and none of us want that. At the general meeting, we debated with the mayor [Stepanka Frankova, who is also a member of the board of Dostihovy spolek] about how the Jockey Club can help in Pardubice, and this is a step towards providing that help.ˮ
“My specific tasks and role at Dostihovy spolek will be clear after I have a meeting with the mayor,ˮ he explains. “I think that we can look forward to a good level of collaboration within the leadership of Dostihovy spolek, though of course a lot will depend on how the next general meeting is going to develop. However, I believe that we will be able to help in dealing with the unsatisfactory situation that that has surrounded Dostihovy spolek in recent times,ˮ Václav Luka adds.
