DS Pegas: What will Wroblewski come up with?
On December 1st, our old acquaintance Polish trainer Gregorz Witold Wroblewski started work on a new Czech horseracing undertaking. He takes over Roman Vitek’s position with the ambitious DS Pegas stable owned by Jiří Trávníček, and has started his new job at Zhoři, near Jihlava. He has therefore put off his announced departure for Poland after terminating his successful engagement with Rabbit Trhový Štěpánov during the racing season.
„I received the kind of offer you don’t turn down,“ Wroblewski explains from his new workplace. „DS Pegas has top class training centre facilities, and has top class horses by our standards. This is a great opportunity and I decided to take it up.“ Wroblewki states. „As far as going back to Poland is concerned, I have decided to wait. At present, the situation there is still dependent on just one racecourse, where racing is indeed going ahead, but nothing is clear for the future. Racing in Poland is still in a very complicated situation, while Czech racing is on a broader foundation, and racing goes ahead on a more certain basis...“
The trainer, who has also had some Polish chasers in his care, will now dedicate himself fully to his activities at Zhoři. „Two horses from Poland are being sent to Rome for the winter, and I will now concentrate on my new post.“ The weeks to come will show how Wroblewski gets on with the training centre at Zhoři and with the winter weather conditions in the [notoriously cold] Czech-Moravian highlands. „I am a person who likes hot weather, and I have had an extremely mild month of November, when we could work well with the horses. Let us hope there will continue to be good weather. In any case, we will have to accommodate to the conditions,“ says DS Pegas‘ new trainer.
At the moment he has only a general idea about plans for the coming season. „There are some very good quality 2-y-os, and my main task will be to prepare them for the classics. In addition, Mr Trávníček has bought the best Polish 2-y-o filly, and we will probably be aiming her mainly for the Oaks. As for the older horses, we will be trying some of them over fences. Some of them look like potential chasers, and I would like to develop them,“ says Greg Wroblewski.
