Shamalgan 3rd in French classic


Shamalgan, owned by Ardak Amirkulov, trained at Mimon by Arslangirej Šavujev, and ridden by Thierry Jarnet produced the greatest performance ever by a Czech racehorse when he came from behind to finish a close third in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains – the French Two Thousand Guineas (Gr.1, 1600 m, € 450 000) at Longchamp on Sunday. Shamalgan, the best 2-y-o in the Czech Republic last year, started at 137 to 1. He finished behind Lope de Vega and Dick Turpin, and won third-prize money of € 51,345. Ardak Amirkulov and Arslangirej Šavujev were the owner and trainer of the previous best-ever Czech trained racehorse, Darsalam.


Innovator wins the Czech Two Thousand Guineas


Slovak-trained German-bred Innovator, by Refuse to Bend (IRE) (GER) out of a Gold and Ivory mare got up in the last few strides to win the Czech Two Thousand Guineas by a neck from Rabbit King on May 16th. Innovator is owned by OMS, trained by Zuzana Kubovicova and was ridden by Jaroslav Linek. Rabbit King, owned by race sponsor Rabbit Trhovy Stepanov, narrowly failed to lead from start to finish.


Royal Mougins wins at Merano


Royal Mougins, our leading  hurdler and park-track chaser for several seasons, won the Premio Paolo, 3500 metres, hurdles, at Merano on Sunday, his 17th win in 26 races over hurdle and fences. Royal Mougins is owned by Dr Jiri Charvat, trained by Frantisek Holcak and was ridden by Jiri Kousek. This was a noteworthy event, in that Royal Mougins won on the disqualification of an Italian horse.


Age of Jape continues his run of victories


Age of Jape, winner of the Czech Triple Crown in 2009, and also of the Slovak Derby and St Leger won the May Grand Prix - Vetis Prize, Category I, over 2400 metres at Bratislava on May 16th, comfortably beating Camill, Ramblin Scout and Savignon. He has now won his last 11 races, and has not even been stretched in his more recent races.
